Get Her Back (2011) is a Fantasy novella in the Demontech series, following "Delaying Action" in By Other Means. The initial volume in this sequence is Onslaught.In this novella, Spinner is a Frangerian Marine and the leader of about 8,000 refugees fleeing from the Jokapcul invaders. He loves Alyline.
Haft is a Frangerian Marine and the co-leader of the refugees. He carries a wicked short shaft half-moon axe.
Alyline is a beautiful blond temple dancer. She Spinner's girlfriend She has only minimal survival instincts.
In this story, a seaman escapes from the High Desert Nomads. He reports hearing a sothar played in the nomad's camp. Alyline overhears his comment and asks him more about the musician. Then she tells him that will guide her to the camp.
Alyline wonders if the sothar was played by her musician. The seaman hides from Alyline and she leaves camp with some Zobran Royal Lancers. They head a little south of west across the desert, but are intercepted by the nomads.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the refugees learn that Alyline is gone. They also learns why she has left and who she has with her. Spinner decides to go after her.
Everybody tells Spinner that he cannot just head out after Alyline. He is the visible leader of the refugees. Haft is also a leader, but is less obvious. He is chosen to follow the missing woman, taking a platoon of Bloody Axe warriors with him.
This tale takes Haft and his warriors to the nomad camp. They seem rather interested in his axe. An old nomad states that it is the axe of the greatest warrior on the planet. Haft hadn't know that his grandfather had that much of a reputation.
Alyline seems a bit impetuous and willful. The next installment in this sequence has not yet been announced on Amazon.
Recommended for Sherman fans and for anyone else who enjoys tales of close combat, nomad cultures, and a touch of romance. Read and enjoy!

The book was good but not quite up to the same standard as the first two books in the series.
Sherman has written another of this series that is an interval piece as opposed to a continuation. Still very readable and interesting.
Makes me wish there were more stories in this series, a different take on fantasy warriors. Read the whole series if you can find them.
Very fast response. I would purchase again. I have not read the book yet. I'm getting the book series together. I like to read books in order of publication.
Not what I expected. I thought I would get a better book than I did. I have read all the previous books and enjoyed them. This seemed to be almost written on a lower level than previous volumes
I have been a big fan of this series for a long time and was greatly disappointed when publication stopped. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this book. It is a fun ride and would recommend this book without reservation. My only problem is it is a little short, but for all that I would still purchase it without a doubt. I hope that I don't have to wait 10 years before the next book.
If you are a sci-fi and/or military fan that enjoys a fun read now and then you should read this whole series. The character are well developled and it's an extremely fun, short read. Not too short but you want to read it in one sitting and then you're sad it finished! Some series you get tired with after a few books. I think I could read a few of these a years for the rest of my life and not get tired of reading them.
